Research & Development mission highlights our approach to advance our position as one of the best research-oriented institute. The priorities for the next few years will focus on developing research network on thrust areas and societal needs.
The main focus will be on facilitating researchers with sound knowledge, professional approach and innovative thoughts for global accomplishments. Another prime feature of the cell is Multi-disciplinary approach which is the need of the hour.

Research Strength of the Institute
- Institute has a Research cell headed by a Senior Professor as Dean along with an Associate Dean.
- Received funding for research from various State and National funding agencies.
- Grants worth Rs. 2.59 Cr are received in the last 3 years
Research Guidelines
In adherence with its Vision & Mission, the institute has established the Research Cell –an entity under the direction of the Principal – to enrich the research ambience in the institute.
The major objectives of the Research Cell are:
- Construct and sustain a vibrant research culture within the institute
- Motivate faculty and students to engage in research activities by providing effective support system
- Encourage, steer and coordinate the faculty and students towards doctoral and post-doctoral research
- Inspire faculty and students towards major and minor research projects with potential for Patenting and Commercialization, and also undertake projects of societal relevance
- Enthuse faculty towards organizing of national and international conferences on emerging areas
- Guide the faculty and students to develop research papers and ensure their publication in reputed journals
- To establish liaison with industries resulting in collaborative research, technical support and sharing of facilities
- To develop cohort research clusters from various institutes in India and abroad
- To identify strategic approaches to enhance generation of research revenue from various funding agencies
- Develop preparedness among faculty members to accept any new opportunities in upcoming research areas
The Research Cell includes in its ambit all research activities and personnel under the patronage of DIT \
Research Guidelines
The formation, updating and implementation of Research Guidelines shall be carried out by the Internal Research Committee (IRC) of DIT. The research committee may revise such policy as found necessary from time to time in future.
Purpose:
Research Policy is to build a vibrant research culture amongst faculty and students of DIT. The policy provides an overall research framework and guidelines for the smooth functioning of research activities and endows with a strong support system.
Research Management:
The Internal Research Committee shall be responsible for overall functioning of research activities within the Institute under direct supervision of the Principal.
RSCOPE:
It is applicable to all faculty and students of DIT.
GUIDELINES RESEARCH
- Faculty members and students of DIT are expected to undertake research, leading to quality publications in journals (SCIE/ Scopus) and conferences of National and International of repute
- Generation of Intellectual property with potential for commercialization
- Policy of the DPU needs to be followed
- Undertake projects with societal relevance (socially useful outcome).
- It is desirable that 20% of the projects of every department has to be of societal relevance
- Undertake funded / sponsored projects at UG and PG level
- It is desirable that 20%of the projects of every department has to be funded by the industries (industry sponsored)
- Avail of grants from funding agencies:
- Every department shall fetch a research grant minimum 30% greater than previous year.
- Develop center of excellence in every department
- One conference/seminar based on thrust areas at National and International level to be conducted by departments in rotation (through grants)
- Ethical responsibility:
Faculty or students will adhere to the ethical standards/guidelines given for carrying out research. Faculty members and student researchers shall follow academic honesty and integrity in his/her research work. A disciplinary committee, instituted by the Principal, will carry out inquiry when academic dishonesty is reported against any individual/group and reserves the rights of penalizing the mal practices or plagiarized work if found guilty.
Resources for research support
Institute will extend support for the following:
- Support publication charges when requested by an individual /group, after manuscripts are communicated to quality journals / book publishers. Such requests will be scrutinized through a committee appointed by the Principal.
- Registration fees for attending conferences, workshops, FDPs, STTPs, Seminars, Symposia etc. if the organizer does not pay the TA/DA to the participants. The details of conference/seminar/workshop need to be submitted to research committee for the approval before registration process.
- Any research output, which has commercial value, will be encouraged for patent filing. Policy of the DPU needs to be followed
- Provide additional manpower in departments with higher research intensity and research output, depending on specific justifiable requirements.
- SEED money to budding researchers (Faculty / students) can be provided on request/application in the prescribed format which will be scrutinized by the committee appointed by the Principal.
- Budget provision of Rs. 5.00 lakhs per year per department is made for carrying out research. All the departments shall submit their proposal in the prescribed format (Purpose, Objectives, Methodology, budget estimates) to the research committee.
Such requests will be scrutinized through a committee appointed by the Principal.
Consultancy
- The faculty involved in any consultancy & services must take prior permission from the research committee of the institute.
- The agreement mentioning the nature of the job to be undertaken, the duration of the work and the charges need to be duly signed by consultant and consultee with prior approval of the head of the institute.
- The consultant is not allowed to take up any form of outside work-related consultancy not covered by an agreement involving the institute.
- The faculty involved in non-work-related consultancy must not use the institute name to endorse this activity without prior written approval from the research committee.
- The research committee reserves the rights of disbursement of the revenue generated through consultancy & services among the institute and consultant.
- The documentation of the consultancy & services must be recorded and submitted to the research committee at the completion
- The consultant needs to ensure that the undertaken job must not hamper his/her academic responsibilities.
Obligation of faculty
- Any research output (paper publication, copyrights, patents, consultancy, product development) shall carry the affiliation of the Institute.
- Research output will be considered as one of the criteria for faculty appraisal.
Periodic Review of Research Output:
Review / audit of research output shall be carried out by IRC of the institution, periodically (once in every semester) for assessment and required corrective actions, if any and shall submit the report to the Principal’s office.
